A day in the life of our new clinical nurse package lead

Hi all,

My name is Ire Onigbanjo and I am the new clinical nurse package lead with Airmid; hurray 😊. I will essentially be the clinical support for all our care packages within Kent but will still be supporting my nursing colleagues with other packages in different areas we may cover. This may involve arranging meet and greets between families and staff, shadowing staff to ensure they are able to provide effective care, completing 3 monthly supervisions, supporting families with care enquires, providing training and development, liaising between other professional etc the list is endless.

I can’t believe I have been nursing for almost a decade and have done so much already! How time flies. My background essentially is working in medical and surgical areas that support adults and children with complex care, acute conditions and palliative care. I’ve spent my nursing carer in between the community and hospital settings. Let’s just say community won!

Before joining Airmid, I was a little nervous about what the job involved because for me I am a very hands-on nurse and like to get stuck into patients care directly. I was worried I would be behind a screen or piled up with paperwork and not have the pleasure in delivering nursing care and clinical interventions. I have come to find out I had nothing to worry about.

Within the first two weeks, I was already doing school and home visits to all our patients and their families, slowly introducing myself to the families and clients, completing and updating care plans etc. And a month in I am doing all those things and more; interviewing potential staff, leading on packages, completing supervisions, training and development and skills and competency sign offs for all new workers in our packages.

My colleagues have been supporting me with the introductions, but I have also taken it upon myself to reach out not only to the families but to the carers and nurses I will be supporting. Not everyone likes changes but give them time and they will come around which thankfully some on the families have.  I am a very quick learner, and I feel like I have begun to find my feet. Like any new job, it just takes some adjustment to learning the ropes of how each organisation works.

To me, Airmid is a Homecare Provider Organisation that helps support families in providing effective care for their loved ones so they can have a breather. It is not easy looking after and supporting someone with any form of complex care which is why Airmid Staffing provide competent carers and nurses to help ease that strain and enhance patient care. I am looking forward to seeing the company grow and see what potential it can reach. I am also very interested to see how I grow as a clinical lead within the company as this role is very much new to me and my nursing career. I really enjoyed working within the team so far. They have been amazing in working me onboard which has been very helpful so I would like to say a big thanks you to them all.
